Paul Gambaccini is a British-American radio DJ, music historian, and journalist. He was born on April 2, 1949, in New York City, USA, but he has spent most of his professional life in the United Kingdom. Gambaccini started his career in radio while studying at the University of Oxford, where he worked for the university's student radio station.
Gambaccini is best known for his work as a radio DJ and presenter, having worked for BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, and Capital Radio, among others.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Gambaccini is also a well-respected music historian and journalist. He has written several books on music, including biographies of artists such as Elton John and David Bowie. He has also written for a variety of publications, including Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and Music Week.
Gambaccini guest presented Top of the Pops a number of times during the 1980s. Including announcing the No.1 single on the 1000th edition of Top of the Pops, and co-presenting the TOTP 25th Anniversary special.
