1964-1965: The First Opening Titles!

The first Top of the Pops opening titles! Sadly, no full episodes of Top of the Pops exist for 1964 or 1965, so little video footage of the first presentation package exists in the archives. Back in the early 2010s, someone at the BBC unearthed what is thought to be the first opening title sequence for Top of the Pops. The first opening titles for TOTP featured two men playing the drums, and the TOTP logo zooming in and out of vision, until eventually appearing in the centre of the screen and the exclamation mark appearing next to the words "Top of the Pops". An unknown instrumental track accompanied the first opening titles.
