In 1966, Top of the Pops relocated from Manchester to London. To commemorate this move to BBC Television Centre, the TOTP opening title sequence and logo underwent a revamp. The new opening title sequence showcased live-action close-up shots of musical instruments and vinyl records being manufactured and played on a turntable, interspersed with neon numerals counting down from 20 to 2 before a neon Top of the Pops logo was displayed.
This presentation package remained in use until 1969, when regular colour television broadcasts commenced on BBC1. The theme tune would continue to be used until approximately 1971, when it was repurposed as the closing theme tune during the end credits of the show.
