Mike Smith

Mike Smith was a British broadcaster and presenter who rose to fame in the 1980s. Born in 1955 in London, Smith began his career as a radio presenter on hospital radio.

In 1982, Smith joined BBC Radio 1 and quickly became a popular DJ, hosting the weekday mid-morning show and later the Saturday lunchtime show. He also presented a number of music and entertainment programmes on television, including Top of the Pops, and The Late, Late Breakfast Show.

Smith regularly presented Top of the Pops from 1982 to 1988. TOTP episodes hosted by Mike Smith are not repeated on BBC Four as Mike did not sign a licence extension permitting TOTP repeats.

Mike Smith sadly passed away in 2014 at the age of 59.
