As new boss Andi Peters prepares to take the TOTP reigns, Daniel Blubbingfield whimpers on about his most touching TOTP moments to date...
I always loved it! It's a great institution of British TV isn't it. Always proud to watch it!
No, it was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. It was a real peak for me, getting to No.1 with 'Gotta Get Thru This'. Also, when you see yourself on Top Of The Pops, you know you've made it. There's nothing else in the music industry that tells you've made it in quite the same way! [Flushing from the flattery!] Okay, what... I'm gonna cry! [Daniel starts to look a bit peeky around the eyes!]
Well, I'm not, but it's a very emotional experience for me!
Cameo, in his red codpiece. [Drying off] That was hilarious! The funniest bit of TV I've ever seen, other than Basil Fawlty bashing his car up. [If you really want to know, ask your pa - Ed.]
Definitely the first one. I thought it'd be the only TOTP performance I'd ever get in my life. I put everything into that. I was so nervous, but I loved it. And it doubled my record deal at the time.
Performing with Beyonce and the rest of Destiny's Child!
Gareth Gates! [Pause - followed by huge girly laugh!]
Well TOTP does have a very high ratio of beautiful ladies backstage, so just hanging around in the corner of the Star Bar is a joy!
Yeah, a particular seven of them! The female staff are lovely here too!
