Interview date: Circa 2003
Heidi: 'Hole In The Head' we actually recorded with Brian Higgins. We were working with him for quite a while, trying out different styles. He came up with the chorus and we wrote our own verses. It's probably the poppiest track that we've got on the album. It's a fun cheeky song! It's quite a personal song to Keisha, actually...
Keisha: It was. Hence it has the word s**t in it several times. But, I'm not a bitter person, ya know. I've just expressed it and now I've let it go.
Mutya: We've kinda like... mucked about with different types of music. We did the same with 'Angels' and 'One Touch', but we think this one's much more mellow. We've still got hip hop beats, influences of reggae, ragga and UK garage on it. Our next single is gonna be a ballad, which I don't think anyone has heard us sing like this before.
Keisha: That's what I said! For a whole week we were coming up with different titles for the album. We didn't want it to have this really big message, but I guess if you look into it, we now have three different albums, it's been nearly three years...
Mutya: Three different coloured eyes!
Keisha: Three different races!
Mutya: Three different hairstyles!
Keisha: Three different ages. 20, 18 and 19!
Mutya: Three different shoe sizes!
Heidi: We had the same with 'Angels'. In interviews people used to take it really seriously and say 'sooooo, why is the album called 'Angels With Dirty Faces', what does that mean?'. There really wasn't any hidden meaning behind it. It was just a funny title.
Keisha: Everyone sulks when they break up, but it's cool because at the end of the day it's all good. I'm over it now and over you now. That's why.
Heidi: We did quite a few festivals in the summer. We did Glastonbury which was a really big thing for us. Also Tea In The Park and Party In The Park. It was mainly spent in the studio, but it was broken up a little. Oh, I also had a two week holiday in Mexico!
Heidi: Erm.. I can't really remember. The first six months, when I joined the band, we didn't really know each other that well. When we wrote 'Angels With Dirty Faces' it was really hard for all of us because I was a stranger to the girls and they were strangers to me. There was a lot of pressure when we wrote that, but now I think we're the closest we've ever been. All the rumours go round, but it's a load of rubbish. We've got so much respect for each other, and we're really comfortable.
Mutya: I've never been a Halloween person, but this year I wanna do some trick or treats and throw a big party.
Heidi: Same, here. I'm gonna get dressed up for a friends moving-in Ready for a good egging?
Keisha: I haven't planned anything, but I used to meet up with my friends and throw loads of eggs at cars. I got chased by this old woman one time. It was the best time ever!
Heidi: I used to love playing duck apple. Especially when your dressed up as a witch.
Heidi: No. You just have to make sure that you've got sweets in for the kids that come around. We used to put eggs through the letter boxes if people didn't have any.
Heidi: We've sort have done that with Blue before.
Mutya: We put cola and water all over their stuff. But, we didn't realise that they were going to America straight after to shoot their new video. They did it to us first though. We actually wentOhhhh... boys! onto a plane one time not realising that they had stuffed burgers, buns, sausages and cutlery in our shoes and stuff.
Heidi: I saw a fly flying over my bag. It must have been after the food in my handbag.
Mutya: Yeah. I believe in all that stuff. I don't know why, but I really do. Maybe it's because my mum believes in it. I think spirits can come and haunt you. I live with two of my friends and for some reason we all run up the last bit of our stairs. As soon as we are half way up, we all automatically run. We've all sat down and dicussed it and we don't know why. I reckon there's something out there!
