Tommy Vance was a British radio broadcaster who is best known for his work on BBC Radio 1, where he hosted various shows over the course of his career. Born in 1940 in Eynsham, Oxfordshire, Vance began his broadcasting career in the 1960s as a DJ on offshore pirate radio stations. He later worked for various UK commercial radio stations before joining BBC Radio 1 in 1978.
During his time at Radio 1, Vance hosted a number of popular shows, including the "Rock On Saturday" and "Friday Rock Show" programs, which focused on hard rock and heavy metal music. He was known for his enthusiastic and knowledgeable presentation style, and he played an important role in promoting and popularizing rock music in the UK.
Vance regularly presented Top of the Pops from 1980 to 1984.
Vance continued to work for BBC Radio 1 until 1993, when he left to join Virgin Radio. Tommy Vance sadly passed away suddenly in March 2005.
