Peter Powell, born August 24, 1951, is a British radio DJ and television presenter, best known for his work during the 1970s and 1980s.
Powell began his broadcasting career as a DJ in his hometown of Birmingham, England. He quickly became known for his lively and engaging on-air personality, and was soon offered a job as a presenter on Radio Luxembourg, a popular commercial radio station that broadcast throughout Europe.
In 1978, Powell joined the BBC Radio 1 team, where he presented the station's flagship weekday afternoon show. He was also a regular presenter on Top of the Pops, from the late 1970s to the late 1980s.
During the 1980s, Powell continued to host a number of popular radio and television shows, including The Saturday Show, The Pepsi Chart Show, and The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles.
In addition to his broadcasting work, Powell was also a successful businessman. He founded a record label, PRT Records, in the late 1970s, and later went on to establish a video production company, Peter Powell Productions.
Powell retired from broadcasting in the early 1990s to focus on his business interests. However, he has made occasional appearances on television and radio since then.
