Simon Bates is a British radio broadcaster who became well-known for his work on BBC Radio 1 in the late-1970s and 1980s.
Initially a weekend presenter playing new pop records, Bates took over the weekday mid-morning programme in November 1977 and remained in this slot for 16 years, with up to 11 million listeners tuning in. Bates hosted several popular shows on Radio 1, including the weekday morning show "Breakfast Show" and the Sunday morning show "Our Tune."
In addition to his work on Radio 1, Bates has also worked as a voice-over artist and presented radio shows for other stations, such as Classic FM and Smooth Radio.
Bates left Radio 1 in 1993. He returned to Radio 1 briefly in 2011 to present a one-off show as part of the station's 45th anniversary celebrations.
Simon Bates was a regular Top of the Pops presenter from 1979 to 1988.
