On New Year's Day 1964 Jimmy Savile presented the first edition of the BBC music chart television programme Top of the Pops from a television studio in a converted church in Dickenson Road, Rusholme, Manchester. He was a Radio 1 DJ, and he presented a number of other famous TV shows including “Jim’ll Fix It”, & “Clunk Click”.
On 30 July 2006, he co-hosted the final weekly edition of Top of the Pops, ending it with the line "It's number one, it's still Top of the Pops", before turning off the studio lights after the closing credits.
Jimmy Savile died in October 2011.
In October 2012, it was unearthed that Savile was a prolific sexual abuser and pedophile.
Since this was uncovered, all episodes and performances that feature Jimmy Savile are no longer repeated on British television.
